Advanced Placement Program
Cathedral has been offering the AP Program since 2004. The AP Programe provides students with an opportunity for learning that goes beyond just facts and figures. The rich course material, classroom discussions and demanding assignments typical of an AP course will help students develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills expected of college students. AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school and earn college credit and placement. AP is available to students in standards 9th to 12th however IB students are not allowed to apply.
Why Choose Advanced Placement Program?
- AP helps students develop better study habits, improve writing skills and sharpen problem solving abilities. This builds confidence to tackle the academic challenges that are expected in college.
- Entering college with AP credits give you time to move into upper-level courses in your field of interest, pursue a double major, or study/travel abroad
- Research consistently shows that students who are successful in AP typically experience greater academic success in college than similar students who do not participate in AP.
- Each September, the College Board recognizes high school students who have demonstrated exemplary college-level achievement with AP Scholar Awards. While there is no monetary award from College Board, AP Scholar Awards further strengthen the college admission portfolio. How Advanced Placement Program Works?
AP classes are conducted after school hours. The schedule is determined based on the timetable set by the school. Registration for AP classes is from July to August and the exam is conducted the following May. AP scores are reflected on our school’s Grade Transcript once the course is audited and approved by the College Board. Additionally, only if a student has completed both the AP course and AP exam from school, it will be included on the final grade transcripts. AP's done from outside of school are not included.A minimum number of 3 students will need to be enrolled for the above subjects to be offered by the school.
